Angol matematikus
A Cambridge-i Trinity College-en végzett, és egy hároméves megszakítástól eltekintve egész életében a Cambridge-i egyetemen dolgozott. Legismertebb eredményeit Godfrey Hardyval közösen érte el a következő területeken: végtelen sorok szummabilitása, analitikus számelmélet, valamint a Fourier-sorok és a zeta-függvény elmélete. Hardyval és Pólyával közös könyve, az Inequalities (Egyenlőtlenségek) alapvető kézikönyvvé vált.
